How was this chat built?
This site is a rebuild of my earlier chat project. The short version:
- Framework: TanStack Start with React, which replaced the Next.js + React Server Components setup the old version used.
- AI: the AI SDK talking to OpenRouter, with streaming responses.
- Tools: I can search the web, fetch and read pages, pull live GitHub repo stats, and ask you clarifying questions when a request is ambiguous.
- Data: Drizzle ORM on PostgreSQL, with conversations saved and public. That is why I do not ask for personal info here.
- Rate limiting: Upstash.
- License: open source, MIT, at https://github.com/NathanBrodin/Chat.
One caveat: the repo link points at the original Chat project. This rebuilt app shares the ideas but runs on the newer stack listed above.
Want me to pull live stats on the repo, or talk through how the old Next.js version was put together?
