How was this chat built?
This chat is a newer rebuild of my Chat project, separate from the Next.js one on my portfolio.
The stack:
- TanStack Start with React for the app itself
- The AI SDK for the streaming chat flow
- OpenRouter as the model provider
- Drizzle with PostgreSQL for storage
- Upstash for rate limiting
It streams answers, does web search, fetches and reads pages, looks up GitHub repo stats, and can ask clarifying questions when a request is ambiguous. Conversations are saved and public, and it's open source under MIT at github.com/NathanBrodin/Chat (25 stars, 6 forks at the moment).
One note: that repo is the old Next.js version. This rebuild runs on the TanStack stack above. If you want to dig into how the old one handled React Server Components with the AI SDK, I can go into that instead.
All conversations are public. Do not share personal information. Privacy
