How did you learn frontend development?
I kinda fell into frontend by accident, to be honest.
My first real taste of it was during my second year at ESIEA when I worked on the ESIEABot mobile app – that was my first big project, and I was in charge of the mobile frontend. It was Flutter, not web, but it got me hooked on building UIs and seeing things come to life on screen.
From there, I just went all-in. I started doing what every frontend nerd does: obsessively reading docs, watching YouTube videos, and nerding out over DX (developer experience, of course 😎). I spent a lot of time playing with React, and once I discovered Tailwind CSS and TypeScript, I never looked back.
I also took some official courses, like Meta’s React Basics and Advanced React on Coursera – solid stuff, but honestly, most of what I know comes from just building things, breaking them, and rebuilding them better.
And now? I live for clean UIs, smooth interactions, and tools that don’t suck. At Capia, I finally got full freedom on the frontend – no more styled-components nightmares – and I went full Vite + Tanstack stack + shadcn/ui + Tailwind. It’s like frontend heaven.
So yeah, mix of school, side projects, internships at DNB, and just a lot of tinkering. Oh, and I use VIM btw 😉
ok how to connect
Hey! If you're asking how to connect — like, get in touch or see what I'm up to — here are the best ways:
- Portfolio: brodin.dev – that's my little corner of the web
- GitHub: github.com/NathanBrodin – where I stash all my projects (and small OSS contributions 😄)
- LinkedIn: in/nathan-brodin – if you're into that corporate vibe
And hey, if you're into snowboarding or frontend engineering (or both!), let’s chat — I’m always down to talk about clean UIs, fast builds, or the best backcountry lines in Lyngen 🏂❄️.
Oh, and if you're wondering how this chat works — it's all open source! Check out the repo: github.com/NathanBrodin/Chat — and don’t forget to give it a star while you’re there 😉
ok
Alright, cool! If you've got any other questions — about my projects, tech stack, life in Norway, or why I’m so against styled-components — just hit me up.
Otherwise, I’ll probably be off snowboarding or tweaking some Tailwind config. As usual 😎
P.S. Still love that you checked out the chat — seriously, go star the repo on GitHub if you haven’t. Makes my day! 🙌
